Who can take lessons?

ThePurplePiano offers lessons to students of all ages and abilities. 5-6 is typically a great age to begin lessons, but we've worked with students as young as 3-4. We also love our teen and adult students!

Do you offer recitals? Are they mandatory?

There are a minimum of 2 recitals per year. We've held recitals at Muse Performance Space in Lafayette and Steinbaugh Pavillion in Louisville. Recitals are meant to be stress-free opportunities for students to share all the hard work they have been putting in. While not a requirement, we encourage every student to participate and view recitals as positive musical experiences that can also help to build strong life skills.

Where do lessons take place?

Lessons with take place in your home in the Boulder/Denver metro areas. Virtual lessons may also be offered upon request. Lessons with Haley take place in her home studio in Louisville.

Do I need an instrument at home?

Students are required to have an instrument at home to practice on. An acoustic piano or a digital keyboard with 88 keys are both wonderful options. Weighted keys are ideal to build correct technique.

Are there any costs aside from monthly tuition?

Additional costs include the initial purchase of an instrument/instrument accessories, and music books as needed. Tuition includes the cost of 2 recitals and 3 group classes at no extra charge. No per-lesson charges or registration fees.

How is billing handled?

Tuition for music lessons is billed at a flat monthly rate. ThePurplePiano uses My Music Staff to manage invoicing, payments, scheduling, resource sharing, and event registration. Payments can be made via credit card or ACH on this platform.

Are the Instructors background checked?

Yes!

What is your sickness policy?

We take health and wellness very seriously. If there is sickness in your household, we encourage you to move your lesson online or schedule a makeup lesson. We offer up to 2 makeup lessons per semester. Unlike other studios, we do not require 24 hour notice because we know that sometimes illness has a more sudden onset (we do require notice prior to your actual lesson time, though).

How are semesters structured?

Fall semester runs from mid-August, through Dec 31st. Spring semester runs from Jan 1 through the end of the school year. Summer semester runs from the week after Memorial Day until the beginning of August. View our full Studio Calendar here. Most students opt to remain enrolled in lessons year round, as to not lose their learning progress or spot in the studio. You may discontinue enrollment at any time with 2 weeks' notice.

How do I log in to my online portal?

Login to My Music Staff: app.mymusicstaff.com. My Music Staff is used for scheduling, invoicing, payments, practice notes, event registration, and sharing repertoire.
